a compliment

crabby, red-faced man who leads a project i work on just recommended me to be the usability person that works on a special project for a vice president…i’m proud and just had to tell you.  even though it means more work…it is quite the special thing to get a compliment like that from crabby red-faced man.

going to Madison this weekend

Filed under: Uncategorized — by thedoglady @ 9:15 am

…to visit my sister-in-law and her husband…

The husband sent this to Chris and I this morning in anticipation of our arrival tonight.  Sometimes after a few adult beverages (or even before any…) he enjoys writing us…”creative” poems… :-)   This is going to be an awesome weekend.
I’m lost in a haze, the lazy days,
of moral relativism, and animal activism,
save their pelts, we all want belts,
or wool socks, or comfy smocks,
good thing for PLEATHER, instead of leather,
for the haze gets thicker, and thicker and thicker,
so with a slight snicker, put on a sticker,
that says not genuine leather, but engineered PLEATHER,
and go back to the haze, where we all likes to stays,
who gives a shit about animal activism,
when in the haze of moral relativism.

…to Erica and Trevor, who are officially engaged! I have never been in a wedding before (other than my own, and as a personal attendent for Jocelyn, which is different), so I am very excited and honored that they have asked me to be a bridesmaid and share their day. It’s a ways off (May 26, 2007 — which means that Chris and I will get to spend our 5 year anniversary in Nebraska instead of Hawaii like we had talked about)…but I am excited already. :-) I am already trying to figure out how best to travel to the ceremony & bachelorette party (driving or flying). CONGRATULATIONS AGAIN! :-)

a close call

for a few months now, i’ve been waiting for front & finish magazine to publish the national ratings of all dogs competing in harley’s class. she did really well last year, and had the possibility of being nationally ranked. dogs are rated in a number of ways — by their individual breed (for her, Labrador Retrievers, which I think she could win), by the “group” of dogs their breed is in, and also a cumulative ranking of all dogs regardless of breed. harley did so well, i was hoping that she could be ranked in all 3 of those categories (all dogs, regardless of breed being the most prestigious).

well, today i saw an update on their web magazine that the ratings were finally published. however, i was crushed to see that harley was not, in fact, ranked in all 3 categories like i had hoped, she was only rated in Labradors as #3 dog. this was really disappointing to me until i realized that the magazine only reported her as having 28 points, when she in fact should have 69! so i called the magazine, and found out that they get the show results from the American Kennel Club (AKC) and that AKC had left off the show results for the months October – December, which happens to be when Harley earned most of her points. so, all of the ratings that had been published were completely wrong!

i am glad not to be the woman who thought she had gotten 1st place of all the dogs in the country, only to realize that she didn’t. i guess i am glad that instead i was let down at first, but have hope that things will look better for us when the results are redone. only time will tell…the woman at the magazine said they have gotten tons of phone calls, and plan to recalculate and reprint for their March issue. many of the phone calls were angry ones, i’m sure. i wasn’t so much angry, as just very disappointed when i saw the “results”. i put so much of my time/effort/heart into doing this that it made me very sad to think that it didn’t pay off.

I moved!

WordPress has cooler templates than Blogger. So I thought I’d give it a try. Since I am, after all, the dog lady, i thought i’d add my dog’s webpages to the list on the left right. i don’t know why they list above the people. i’m having a hard time figuring out how to work the sidebar. so don’t be offended. Stay tuned…
